Little boy, run ahead.
Don’t let the vastness stop you.
I see you charge forth, unafraid,
Though I can’t stay atop you.
Feet pound carefree,
Cartwheels in the sand.
Giggling ever giggling,
Flip flops in your hand.
My heart is heavy when I think
Of weight on your fairy wings.
Yet to inspire the change the world so needs
I can’t hide your eyes from such things.
Innocence lost so early.
Was it a mistake to share?
But if you don’t know the truths of the world,
How will you know to care?
So, I will bathe you in sunlight,
That you always know the warmth of true love.
And feel the glow of pride in knowing,
You’re treasured as a gift from above.
