It’s Been a Season

It’s been a season.
Summer to fall.
Shoulds all around her,
Then dropping them all.
The cacophony of dissonance,
Mysterious and distressing.
Breaking down, breaking open,
Her values, it’s testing.
The tourists all gathered
To watch the waves crash.
Our world lit up in flames,
Breath choked on the ash.
The storms blew in angry,
Meteors scorched the sky.
Light eclipsed by darkness,
As the days and weeks rolled by.
The sole luminary
To withstand the assault
Was the one deep inside her,
‘Til now, locked in a vault.
But the light there is strong.
It’s steady. It’s pure.
Growing braver, in fact,
For once being unsure.
She’s free and she’s wild,
Unique and untamed.
At once fiercer and bolder,
The warrior now named.
The season, it’s turning.
A welcome cool to the air.
She throws open the doors.
Finally, time to dare.
